Lesson 8: Eighth Principle - Arm Swing

In Module 2: Body Coordination of Walking - Master a Stunning Walk in Heels and Flats, Lesson 8: Eight Principle - Arm Swing, you learned to swing your arms naturally with the flow of your walk.

Exercise

  • Module 2: Body Coordination of Walking - Master a Stunning Walk in Heels and Flats, Lesson 8: Eighth Principle - Arm Swing included all of the details on how to swing your arms as you walk.
  • For arm movements that align with a runway walk, let your arms hang calm and relaxed, keeping them tight to your body. Only let your forearms swing slightly with your body.
  • Relax your hands and open your fingers until they are almost completely straight so that they are visible. Let them fling back and forth as you walk and naturally move with your walk. Don't make your hands into fists or fidget, and avoid hand gestures. A designer might ask you to put a hand on your hip to emphasize the clothes, or you might carry a bag. However, this would be accessory, so unless a designer has a preference for what you should do with your hands, just keep it simple.
  • Control your body movements by looking in the mirror to make sure you don't lose your posture while doing this exercise.
  • Take a look at the right/wrong pictures below and compare your body with them. Do they look about the same?
  • Stand on your full toe area and repeat the entire exercise.
  • Once you feel comfortable, put on your heels and repeat the exercise. Make sure always to work your way up from a lower to higher heel.
  • Do you fully understand this adjustment? Great! Go to Adjustment 9: Focus Pointing next.
